Rent I WAS 8814 to experience the true story of Hanna Zack Miley, who was torn from her parents and escaped Nazi Germany at 7 years old. She would come to learn that she was part of the Kindertransport–an epic rescue effort that would save nearly 10,000 Jewish children from Hitler’s regime. Hanna’s parents, Markus and Amalie however, would not make it to safety.

In i was 8814, Hanna sits down at 92 years old to personally narrate her story in breathtaking detail. She recounts the childhood experience of seeing Hitler parade through her hometown, the heartbreaking journey of discovering her parents’ fate, returning to her homeland, and finding an unexpected path to healing. Hanna Zack Miley was number 8814.

A profoundly moving account revealing both the darkness of the Holocaust and the restorative power of forgiveness. Thank you, Hannah, for sharing your remarkable story and to the team who supported you and worked with you to produce this important film. God bless you Hannah. Best wishes, Phil (son of a 1939 Kindertransport survivor who became a Christian before his escape, and great grandson of Elise Heudenfeld who was, without mercy, deported at age 81 from Hamburg and murdered at Theresienstadt in 1943)

So moved by Hanna’s documentary about her life as a Kindertransport child during WWII. It’s a story of profound loss—and reconciliation. Stories like hers matter. I highly recommend carving out an hour to watch i was 8814.
